On Earth Pieces takes its form entirely from On Earth. Sabella cut each of those collages into fragments — pieces of a planet — returning attention to a world we have stopped truly seeing. The trilogy moves like a creation story. In On Earth Pieces I, a Berlin lake becomes the earth at the beginning of time, still and biblical. On Earth Pieces II turns to fire — the eruptions of Mount Etna. And inOn Earth Pieces III, the Amalfi Coast becomes a vessel: a giant ark, a spaceship, adrift between water and space.
