A photograph by award-winning Palestinian artist Steve Sabella is due to go under the hammer
Dubai: In a new dedicated photography auction, a photograph by award-winning Palestinian artist Steve Sabella is due to go under the hammer.
"Euphoria, 2010" is part of the internationally acclaimed "Jerusalem: In Exile" project, which explored the mental images Palestinians hold of occupied Jerusalem.
Sabella himself was born in occupied Jerusalem and is now based in London and Berlin.
The photograph is part of the first dedicated Bonhams photography auction, and has attracted a pre-sale estimate of $14,000-18,000 (Dh51,414- Dh66,103).
Other photographs up for auction include iconic images of Twiggy and Coco Chanel.
Jocelyn Philips, Head of the photography department of London-Bonhams, said: "Photography is central to contemporary culture. Recent generations have grown up with photography as the most significant form of representation in many fields, including advertising, fashion and journalism.
"We encounter photographic images hundreds of times a day and in this way they have become part of our visual vocabulary. It is this that makes photography accessible and interesting to collectors," ..
Sabella has won numerous awards, including the Ellen Auerbach Award in 2008. He is collected widely in the Middle East.
The photography sale in Dubai will take place alongside Bonhams' annual Orientalist Art auction on April 13 at the One & Only Royal Mirage.
